iPhone | SMS Fix for Alphanumeric Sender String

Another bug in the iPhone has been fixed, for the iPhone firmware 1.1.1 hackers out there who are relucant to move upward to the current 1.1.2 firmware.

This fix addresses the aphanumeric sender string that typically emanates from your telco provider.

Diagram 1.0 aphanumeric sender strings don't show up as they should on the default iPhone firmware

To overcome this hazard, simply install SMS Fix v.1.0.0 by Fedrik directly into your iPhone! This 'fix' apparently is not just a simple patch but replaces the entire iPhone's SMS application with the one from the latest 1.1.2 firmware.

[Edited:So far, no some ill effects have been reported resulting from this fix.

After installing SMS Fix the iPhone appeared to work fine for a while but later displayed the following anomalies:
  • no number appears at the SMS icon in the Springboard to indicate the number of unread SMS'
  • the incoming/outgoing SMS sound effect became erratic
  • during SMS sending, the send progress bar would stop at the 80% mark and remain hung; we had to exit the SMS app and relaunch - the SMS was sent notwithstanding the hung progress bar
  • on occassion the SMS app would quit without warning and send us back to the main Springboard
Having said that, our experience may be an isolated manifestation. In general, the reports have been positive but from our experience, its advised to install with caution.

The saving grace is that it can be uninstalled as simply as it was installed. We have since removed SMS Fix 1.0.0 from our iPhones, for the time being.

Many thanks, nevertheless, to Fedrik for this patch! Mack]
